Wonderful Mimosa Tree Flower
Mimosa tree flowers are fuzzy balls of silky pink threads that bloom during summer.
Mimosa tree flower. The mimosa I am told is a strong competitor to native trees and shrubs in open areas or forest edges. The Mimosa Tree is a stunning show of flower bursts which are often compared to starbursts or fireworks. The flowers have long stems that separate easily from the tree.

Mimosa can be distinguished from the large related genera Acacia and Albizia since its flowers have ten or fewer stamens. Interestingly it is not the petals but the long thread-like stamens of these flowers that make them look so showy and colorful. The scientific name is Albizia julibrissin. The pink fuzzy tree flowers give off. Botanically what appears to be a single globular flower is actually a cluster of many individual ones.
Once mimosas mature they flower each year between May and July. Mimosa contains some level of heptanoic acid.
